The reason I decided to run for Mayor emanated from discussions with many Cumberland taxpayers who felt disenfranchised with how this town now operates. The taxpayers deserve better. In a Dean Administration, the taxpayers will be calling the shots. Town government will exist to carry out their wishes. The decisions will no longer be made behind closed doors.
The current administration does not embrace the taxpayer. As Mayor Mutter often admits, he is not a people person. As a result, the strong sense of community that once made this town great has been lost. When you have been in politics for 26 years, you tend to grow tired of debate and public input. Mayor Mutter, like so many politicians before him, thinks he has all the answers. He has created a contentious work environment. There has been high employee turnover. He pushes his own agenda without consideration for the taxpayer. As a result, valuable employees now sit quiet and disillusioned for fear of retribution. The residents feel that they have no voice and become disenfranchised.
In a Dean Administration:
-My door will always be open to all residents of Cumberland!
-We will work hard every day to make this town the best place to live!
-We will take direction from town residents as we move this community forward!
-We will work collaboratively with other local, state and federal elected officials to
leverage non taxpayer funds to revitalize Cumberland’s schools and infrastructure!
-Use my extensive business and management experience to make this town work more efficiently while minimizing overhead and reducing taxes!
-Develop a small business friendly environment, eliminating the current adversarial
atmosphere and unnecessary constraints!
-Preserve the rural charm of our town while responsibly addressing the shortage of
affordable housing and schools that are at capacity!
-Restore transparency to our budgets so that residents can understand them!
-Work proactively with the school committee, teachers union and school administration to better identify population trends to effect informed decisions for the next redistricting!
-Give town employees a happy work environment so they feel valued!
